SC-954 Remembers 9/11

On September 11th at 9:30, the cadets of AFJROTC, joined by Wade Hampton administrators, students, and teachers paused to remember the day that changed our lives forever. Our Principal, Mr. Lance Radford offered words of sympathy for those lost and gratitude for those who carry on the effort to preserve our way of life and provide safety in our every day activities. We were honored to have Greenville County Sheriff Steven Loftis with us to represent our dedicated police personnel. He was joined by our very own Officer Neil Mitchell. Fire protection forces were represented by Lieutenant Gilstrap from the Wade Hampton fire department. Several fire fighters joined him. After the ceremony a reception honored those who serve so that we might live in safety. A special part of the ceremony was performed by Mr. Andy Stevens from the Piedmont Pipers. His bagpipe rendention of Amazing Grace stirred everyone in attendance.

Cadets Show Perfect Respect

Our cadets performed superbly in their first 9/11 observance. Kristina Bracewell did a magnificent job in preparing the color guard which performed superbly. Thomas Smith, Logan Smith, and Chase Thompson were truly professional as was Rebecca Francis. Josh Whitaker played TAPS with reverence and a flawless rendention. And our Corps Commander, Kevin Hinnant set the example with our command staff wich included Daniel Lee, Chris Savage, Andrew Hooper, Lexus Carr, and Justin Harrison. Great job SC-954!

Many Shared The Experience

We were pleased that so many joined us for this important remembrance. The ceremony made a lasting impression on all who attended. AFJROTC at Wade Hampton High School will make certain that we never forget.

Can't Thank You Enough

After the ceremony we presented Sheriff Loftis and Lieutenant Gilstrap with the official AFJROTC gold medallion as a symbol of our deepest gratitude to the police forces, fire protection forces, and EMS personnel who sacrificed so much for us that September - and who still provide a safe environment for us in our daily lives. We believe that this ceremony left a valuable impression on our cadets - and hopefully to all who remembered.
