Palmetto's Finest - At Last!!

We did it! Wade Hampton High School has been named Palmetto's Finest as the best high school in South Carolina. The first thing that Palmetto's Finest team saw when they evaluated us was nine ROTC cadets in white pants and red sashes. We just have to believe that it got our evaluation off to a good start. Distinguished Unit, Sword of Excellence, Palmetto's Finest. We all have a lot to be proud of this year!

Adopt-a-Highway Making A Difference

Warm weather has allowed the cadets of SC-954 to begin another community service project. After much coordination with the Department of Transportation, we have re-negotiated a route that keeps our cadets away from congested highways while allowing them to take care of an area close to the school. Armed with gloves, bags, and a willing spirit our cadets are doing their part to keep Greenville clean. We are extremely proud of their efforts on this project. Everyone wins!

February Cadets of Month

Each month our Cadet Group recognizes the top first-year cadet from each flight. They are selected based on attitude, performance, and service to others. Cadet SRA Cameron Atkins (Left) represents A Flight. Cadet SRA Matthew Flowers (Right) is the B Flight Cadet of the Month. And Cadet SRA Emma Mendoza (Far Left) was the top cadet in C Flight. Each of these cadets wears the Cadet of the Month cord, receives 10 merits, and earns the Achievement Ribbon. We are extremely proud of the excellence shown by these cadets. They are great role models for the Corps.

Florida Trip Falling Into Place

Our annual trip to Florida is shaping up nicely - hope the weather cooperates. Our trip is set for April 29th through May 2nd, but we plan to leave immediately after school on the 28th. This year, we plan to take a bus with 40+ Wade Hampton cadets. We are hopeful that Blue Ridge AFJROTC will do the same and join us again. We have a putt-putt match to settle with them. Besides that, we enjoyed their company. We will be staying at the same hotel, the Hampton Inn, on the beach in Fort Walton Beach. We know everyone remembers the good breakfasts and how nice it was to be on the beach. Have we said on the beach enough?

We will also get a lot of educational benefit from the trip. Tentatively, we plan to visit Eglin AFB this year. Eglin is the home of the 33rd Tactical Fighter Wing, an Air Force armament laboratory, and the Air Force Climatic Chamber used to test aircraft and other systems in all kinds of extreme temperatures. We will also visit the Air Force Armament Museum or the Pensacola Naval Air Museum. There is even a chance that an F-35 will be on location at Eglin. Lots of aerospace! So pack the SPF 99, bring your flip-flops, and let's go eat some Firehouse subs in Florida.
