CAP Flights Continue

Thanks to the United States Air Force, our cadets are once again getting an opportunity to put our aerospace science curriculum into practice. On October 22nd, six cadets received an orientation flight in a Cessna aircraft with Tim Crouch from the Civil Air Patrol. Cassarah Wallace (pictured bottom right and center, left), Tyler Thomas (center, middle), Carson Couch (center, right), Emma Mendoza and Chante Moss (back seat, top right) and Wesley Miles (front seat, top right) flew for an hour in the Cessna 172 from Greenville Airport. Despite some "sticky" flaps on the second flight, all were excited about the experience. We will fly more cadets in the near future.

Insight Night Huge Success

On October 19th, hundreds of eighth graders fill Wade Hampton High School to see what we had to offer. The turn-out for ROTC was the most enthusiastic we have seen in years. Shown above are cadets Austin Mohring (left) and Derrick Francis (right) telling parents and students about their experiences in ROTC. Students were impressed with our opportunities and our special events like the military ball, flights in Air Force aircraft, and field trips. They liked the flight simulators too. Thanks to Barry Pyle for setting up that display. We see this as another step forward as we grow our program with positive and enthusiastic students.

Cadets of the Month: September

Each month our cadet leaders select an Advanced Cadet and three Basic Cadets as Cadets of the Month. For September the cadets pictured above were selected as Basic Cadets of the Month: Caroline West (top left), Montez Anderson (top center), and Kristen Mercier (top right). Cassarah Wallace (left) was selected as the Advanced Cadet of the Month. Each of these cadets will receive the Achievement Ribbon and five merits. Congratulations to these hard-working cadets!

Air Force Band Visits WHHS

On October 4th, the Heritage of America Rock Band from Langley Air Force Base, Virginia rolled into Wade Hampton to entertain and inform. They really "wowed" about 500 students with some great sounds - and some testimonies about military service. Coach Parks set it up, and our cadets pitched in with some great behind-the-scenes support. PTSA, Ms. Patti Murphy, put the icing on the cake with a great hospitality room with coffee, juice, danish, fruit, and lots more. She even packed them "to go" boxes. Thank you so much! It was a great day for all involved.
