Serving Our School

On October 21st, our Cadet Corps presented our Principal, Mr. Lance Radford, with a new ceremonial flag for the Wade Hampton front office. Pictured in the presentation are (L to R) Ms. Peters, WHHS Receptionist, Mr. Radford, C/Col Kevin Hinnant, Cadet Group Commander, and C/Maj Salem Stewart, Cadet Mission Support Squadron Commander.

Honors Course Update

As most know, we have worked hard to get an honors course approved for our program to try to help college/scholarship bound cadets - and attract cadets who want to add more rigor to their schedule. We are still in the "crawl before you walk" phase, but we have solid plans for the future for qualified cadets. We received our approval from the Air Force, but our textbooks and supporting materials arrived after we had already started the Fall semester. Since we only have five seniors who have met the course prerequisites, we will try to add enough rigor to award them honors credit before they graduate. That may mean some independent study this year. All other cadets must first complete the "Science of Flight" curriculum before they are eligible for the honors course. We are teaching that course this semester so next year academically qualified cadets will have the honors opportunity - if we can "make" the class with enough students. FYI - not all AFJROTC units offer an honors course, so this is a big deal for us. It is an elective - not science - course, but honors elective credit will be awarded.

Cadets Honored

Recently we took the opportunity to recognize some of our best cadets who have earned special recognition. On September 23rd, we awarded block letters to a group of our hardest workers: Kimberly Bracewell, Kristina Bracewell, Lexus Carr, Taylor Crowe, Erin Davis, Rebecca Francis, Erin Fuller, Justin Harrison,Kevin Hinnant, Andrew Hooper, Dean Kroeger, Daniel Lee, Gregory Little, Will Loper, Richard Mack, Ashley McCullough, Lawrence McDowell, Victoria McLeod, Graves Newall, Chris Savage, Logan Smith, Thomas Smith, Ashley Stewart, Chase Thompson, and Josh Whitaker. We also presented Converse College Cadet Leadership School diplomas and ribbons to Kevin Hinnant, Daniel Lee, Josh Whitaker, Rebecca Francis, Kristina Bracewell, Kimberly Bracewell, Andrew Hooper, Lawrence McDowell, Chante Moss, Zack Curran, Chase Thompson, Thomas Smith, Logan Smith, Chris Savage, Justin Harrison, and Erin Fuller. Congrats to all!

Air Force Has "Birthday"

On September 18th, our cadets celebrated the Air Force's 62nd year as a separate military service. The National Security Act of 1947 created the United States Air Force which had formerly been the Army Air Corps. So each year, we pay tribute to that special day. We invited our Principal, Mr. Lance Radford, to join us as we cut a birthday cake to signify the establishment of our service. Happy Birthday USAF!
