Military Ball on Valentine's Day

We're only three weeks away from one of the most enjoyed social events in the AFJROTC program - the Military Ball. This year's Ball will give five Greenville County JROTC units a chance to enjoy fellowship, great food, and a fun evening. Greenville NJROTC will be joined by Air Force units from Berea, Blue Ridge, Southside, and Wade Hampton. Complete with color guard, saber team, and a coronation ceremony, the ball will have something for everyone. After a wonderful meal, Ball Queens and Kings will be crowned. Seniors will be recognized, and our DJ - the Alleycats - will have music for all to enjoy. The Ball will also feature the first souvenirs - beautiful medallions in blue velvet boxes. Everyone who buys a ticket will get one of the handsome souvenirs. MSgt Clere will be in charge of our ticket sales, and we have been given a quota of 50 tickets at $40 each. Do not wait until the last minute. The deadline for ticket sales is 26 January for first semester cadets in Good Standing and 3 February for second semester cadets. You do not want to miss the chance to enjoy a wonderful sit-down dinner, dancing, and souvenirs - so get your Ball tickets NOW!

VFW Essay Winners from SC-954

SC-954 cadets won the top three places in a recent Veterans of War "Voice of Democracy" essay contest sponsored by VFW Post 8522. The theme for the 3-500 word essay was "The Sacrifice and Service of Our Veterans Benefit Today's Youth...". Each essay had to be recorded on a CD for judging by media broadcasters and a local Mayor. It was a very rigorous and demanding process.
Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Hinnant received the first place award of $100 and a handsome plaque. Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Ashley McCullough earned second place recognition with a plaque and $50. First-year Cadet Technical Sergeant Kimberly Bracewell placed third and received $25 and a plaque. We are very proud of the scholarly effort made by these cadets. And, by the way, every cadet in the Cadet Corps developed an essay on this important subject.

Cadets Open Arms to "Adopt-A-Soldier"

Our cadets are ever-mindful of the sacrifices being made by our soldiers, sailors, and airmen serving in the Middle East. They decided to send some packages to brighten their stay in that combat environment. So they brought in sunscreen, snacks, toiletries, zip lock bags, candy, lotion, and dozens of items that might come in handy. All of these goodies are being shipped to airmen and soldiers serving in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Featured in this photo are Cadet First Lieutenant Gregory Little, Cadet Technical Sergeant Kimberly Bracewell, and Cadet Captain Kristina Bracewell, our Kitty Hawk Commander, who led the way on this citizenship project.
