Now We Know the Navy
Naval aviation certainly has a rich heritage, and we took it all in. Cadets flew in multi-seat flight simulators, and some even enjoyed a virtual dog fight in a two-seat "Top Gun" simulator. There were many other cockpits that allowed cadets to climb in and see the switches and dials that we are experiencing in our Science of Flight course - and in our own flight simulators. We were able to see a display of the USS Hornet that let Lt Col Jimmy Doolittle get his B-25 bombers over Japan in WWII, and there were Blue Angels everywhere. We also took part in the National Naval Aviation Museum "Scavenger Hunt" that had the cadet groups competing to answer questions about naval aviation during the tour. Ms. Smith's group won, but everyone learned a lot. Even an old Air Force aviator like me saw a trick or two that left me speechless. Our hats are off to our seafaring friends who sail the oceans and land on moving runways.
